How To Know If Influencer Marketing Is Right for Your Brand

Influencer marketing is a great tool that can improve your brand’s visibility, reach, credibility, and sales.

The majority of your target audience is loyal to influencers and trusts them for their credibility. Based on that trust and loyalty, they will willingly follow the referrals and recommendations these influencers give. You can use that to your advantage.

You can partner with these influencers or pay them to advertise your products and services to their audience. This will boost your brand awareness and make more people know about your brand and patronize you.

However, as good as influencer marketing is, it’s not great for every business. So, you need to figure out if it is good for yours or not.

Here are a few factors you can use to check if this marketing strategy is good for your business or not:

• Your Marketing Goals and Brand Identity

Before you use influencer marketing, you need to figure out what exactly you are trying to achieve in your marketing campaign.

Specify if your goal is more sales, website traffic, social media engagement, brand awareness, app downloads, etc. When your goal is clear, you can then check whether influencer marketing can help you attain it.

Do your marketing goals have room for influencer marketing? Can influencers help drive the success you are looking to achieve in your overall marketing campaign?

Check out your marketing goals and then answer these questions. If the answer to both questions is yes, then you can go ahead with it.

In addition to that, you need to have a clear and specific message and brand identity that influencers can use while promoting your brand to their audience.

Bear in mind that influencer marketing doesn’t create a structure for you. It can only amplify what you already have on the ground.

So, if you don’t have clear marketing goals or a brand story or message, you shouldn’t start influencer marketing just yet. Map these key factors out before you can go ahead with it.

• Your Audience

Before you start influencer marketing, study your audience and understand them. Understand their behaviours and the type of marketing strategy that will work best for them.

Since social media influencers focus mostly on social media, you need to be sure your target audience is also mainly social media users who are loyal to influencers.

If your audience is Gen Z or Millennials who are always online, this marketing technique will be great for your brand. This age group tends to trust social media influencers more for recommendations.

However, if the majority of your target audience consists of older people, this isn’t the ideal strategy for you. You can look for another one that works best for your brand.

• Your Product Or Service

The product or service you offer can also determine whether you should hire an influencer or not.

This style of marketing works best for products or services that can physically be demonstrated, shown, tasted, worn, or applied in everyday real-life situations.

You should be selling something that can solve people’s problems and show off tangible results, not something that can only be explained or talked about.

• Expectations

Influencer marketing is effective, but it doesn’t guarantee overnight success. Of course, there are some cases where your business could experience a massive increase in followers, engagement, and sales after an influencer talks about it on their timeline, but that’s not the standard.

This marketing technique is one that you should use to build social proof and gain the ears and trust of your audience for long-term credibility and sales.

So, if you are looking for a marketing tool that will always guarantee you an instant increase in revenue, I am sorry, but this isn’t the one for you.

• Marketing Scope

The full potential of influencer marketing is attained when you use it together with other marketing channels. For example, you already run an e-commerce site, email marketing campaign, website, or social media platforms that you can use influencer marketing to improve.

The strategy isn’t effective on its own. You need to use it as a means to an end, not the end.

If you are planning to use this strategy on its own instead of integrating it with other strategies, then you shouldn’t do it. That’s not a good idea, and it won’t give you the needed results.

• Time

First off, you need a good amount of time to figure out the best influencers for your brand. When you have found them, you need to agree on a reasonable fee with them for their services.

After you have hired them, you still need adequate time to guide them on what to do and how to go about promoting your brand. You also need to help them understand what your business is all about so that they can market it well.

Then, you need to monitor their activities to ensure they are doing what you paid them to do correctly.

All these steps take a good amount of time. So, be sure you have enough time on your hands to handle it before you begin influencer marketing.

 • Budget

Influencer fees vary by industry. It also depends on the number of followers and the influence that the influencer has.

So, check the fees charged by different types of influencers in your industry, then decide whether your business can handle them right now.

Aside from the fees charged for the main influencer marketing services, your brand might need to run giveaways and give out free products through the influencers from time to time.

If it’s something your business can afford to do, good, go for it. But if it’s too much for your brand at the moment, you should let it go for now and then consider it again in the future when your revenue grows.

Final Thoughts

Influencer marketing is an effective channel with a lot of benefits, including brand awareness and more sales. However, that doesn’t mean you must do it necessarily because it works or because others are doing it.

You need to first analyze your business and then figure out if it makes sense for you to use influencers to market your products and services. Use the factors we have highlighted in this article to verify if you should go ahead with it or not.

Remember, influencer marketing can only yield positive results for you if it actually fits your brand.
